More in student grants

without comments

We want more!!!

Students in Scandinavia receive arround 4000 kr. a month which approximately is 673 $ each month in student grants. In personally believe that this amoutn schould be even higher yet! When receiving these grants there you can only earn 521 $ working study jobs.

Arguements against

Some people might think “what a spoiled child are you?”. In my oppinion this is not the case. I know that I am privileged to receive those grants and going to University for free….BUT I also have many expences that american university students do not have. I’m not able to live i dorms and the cost of food prices are higher here. As it is right now, I have arround 150 $ month for myself to buy everything that I need for me exclusive food.

I want more!

If the politiciens do not want to raise the grants, they could at least let us earn all we can on the side. I know that the rules are there to make sure that we do good in school, but the one thing do not eliminate the other.

Look at who’s passing

The politiciens could for instance just look at who is passing the exams. I have always worked all the hours that were allowed and never failed any exans in law school, now attenting 3. year. Well i do not know what else to say but, “I WANT MORE!!!”

Why are we so dependent on the US economy?!

without comments

It really socks that we are so dependent!

We all know that the world economy depends quit a lot on the American economy. This really bother me! Why sould I be dependent on how the americans juggle their economy. It has got influence on everything that is important in my everyday, interests of my savings, food prices, mortages, house prices…you name it!

What aboute EU

I truely belive that it would do a lot if we here in Europe could be an actual counterpart to the American economy. I think that we in much greater terms should try to unite the economies of Europe. It is a problem that the EU menber countries so very often disagree on key elements in financial politics, as it weakens us in conparason to the US.

Is the US fading?

Many have been discussing if the US is losing its possition as the worlds greatest super power. I do not know what to think. I mean, the resent financial cricis has not exactly show that the US are mature enough to fight any cricis. More so the other way around. They did not, in my opinion, do enough to keep the situation from evolving – sould they not have taken more responsibility – their world reaching influence taken into consideration?

Tomorrow’s investment bank

without comments

For a couple of years now, everybody has been talking about the devastating implications of subprime, the credit crunch, the financial crisis – call it what you want. For a number of reasons, the current crisis could easily be compared to the great depression on the street in 1929 – which many have taken the opportunity to do. Not only because the current market turmoil is at a level that matches (or in some markets even outdoes) the chaotic levels we saw during the depression, but also because there is an interesting link combining the two crises, as the current crisis seems to be the end of the investment banking model that actually originated as a consequence of the 1929 crisis. The investment banking model worked well – very well – for many years, but we have now seen the end of it, which proofs that as soon as we end an era, we are also starting a new. Cost efficiency

Strategic capability

Managers often refer to the management of costs as a key strategic capability. So it is. Moreover, understanding the management of cost efficiency as a strategic capability illustrates some of the points made.

Who benefits

Customers can benefit from cost efficiencies in terms of lower prices or more products features the same price. The management of the cost base of an organisation could also be a basis for acheiving competitive advantages. However, for many organisations the management of costs is becomming a threshold stratigic capability for two reasons. read more about cost efficiency here

Unique resources and core competences

without comments

What does it take

While threshold capabilities are important, they do not of themselves create competetive advantages or the basis of superior performance. These are dependent on an organisation having distinctive or unique capabilities that competitors will find difficult to imitate.

Unique resources

This could be because the organisation has unique resources that critically underpin competitive advantages and that others cannot imitate or obtain – a long-established brand, for example. It is however more likely that an organisation achieves competitives advantages because it has distinctive, or core, competences. read more about unique resources and core competences here
